I grew up in Aberdeen, South Dakota where I attended Northern State University, served as an assistant coach for the Aberdeen Swim Club for a combined 4 seasons and a student assistant coach for NSU’s swim team. In the summer of 2022 I served as the head coach of the SPY Sharks and CKA’s Somerset Site coach, before permanently moving to Kentucky in May 2023. Since then I’ve worked as the head age group coach for CKA and the Head coach for the DCC summer swim team for the past 2 years.
I’m super excited for this opportunity to continue coaching in Danville, and continuing to build interest in the sport of competitive swimming.

Coach Sam began his career at the high school level in his hometown of Memphis, TN. There, he simultaneously held positions as the Head Coach for three separate high school teams, an Assistant Coach for the Bluff City Blue Fins (a Summer League team), and an Assistant Coach for Memphis Thunder Aquatic Club’s Senior training group. In his time with Thunder, the team was able to grow each year and help swimmers to continue competing at all collegiate levels.
In 2014, Sam moved forward in his coaching career as a Head Age Group Coach for the Rappahannock Stingrays in Fredericksburg, VA. During his time with the Rays, Sam coached several age group swimmers and relays to National Top 16 rankings and Virginia Swimming LSC records.
In 2015, Sam moved to Buffalo, NY, to work with the Buffalo Area Aquatic Club as their new Head Coach. While with BAAC, over 50 team records were broken, and for the first time in the team's history, swimmers were able to represent BAAC at the Futures Championship Meet.
In 2019, Sam became the head coach for the Jackson Swim Team in Jackson, TN, where he worked to build the Shark’s program in size and strength until the Spring of 2020 when the pandemic began.
In the Fall of 2020, Sam became the Head Coach for the Aberdeen Swim Club in Aberdeen, SD. During his time with the Aberdeen Stingrays, the team finished 3rd overall in the State during both the Short and Long Course seasons. Sam helped swimmers to break Team Records, State Records, and achieve qualifying times for Sectionals, Futures, and Junior Nationals meets.
Coach Sam came to Danville, KY in the Fall of 2021 after being hired by Central Kentucky Aquatics as their head coach.
Coach Sam is excited to be moving forward as Head Coach of The Kentucky Mudpuppies as this program works to provide the best service it can to the Central Kentucky Swimming Community.
